Prepare for the France TCF IRN, the Test de connaissance du français pour l'intégration, la résidence et la nationalité. Practise all four tests the real exam scores: listening and reading with audio, plus writing and speaking tasks with model answers and spoken examples. Every answer is explained in French, English and Arabic. Since 1 January 2026 a French level is required for these steps, and the app is built to the current format.
The TCF IRN (Test de connaissance du français pour l'intégration, la résidence et la nationalité) is a French test required for several immigration and nationality steps in France. Since 1 January 2026 a set French level is required depending on the step. The test places you on the Common European Framework scale from A1 to B2 across four tests: listening, reading, writing and speaking. It is designed and delivered by France Éducation international (FEI).
How is the TCF IRN structured?
The TCF IRN has four mandatory tests. Listening comprehension is multiple choice (about 25 questions, roughly 20 minutes) and reading comprehension is multiple choice (about 25 questions, roughly 35 minutes). Written expression has three tasks (about 30 minutes) and speaking is a short three-part interview (about 10 to 12 minutes). Your performance is placed on the CEFR scale rather than marked question by question.
What level do you need for the TCF IRN?
The required level depends on your step: roughly A2 for some residence permits, B1 for the carte de résident, and B2 for naturalisation. Because all four skills count, speaking and writing practice matter as much as listening and reading. Always confirm the exact level required for your situation with the official sources.
How long is the TCF IRN result valid?
The TCF IRN attestation de résultats is valid for two years from the date you sit the test. If your step is delayed you may need to sit it again, which is why many candidates prepare thoroughly the first time.
What does the TCF IRN cover?
The tasks are built around everyday, real-life French: administration, work, housing, health, daily life, society and travel. This app groups its practice and flashcards into the same everyday themes:
Vie quotidienne: shopping, meals, timetables and everyday interactions.
Travail et études: job ads, the workplace, training and school.
Logement et services: the lease, bills, the bank and services.
Santé et social: the doctor, pharmacy, social security and emergencies.
Administration et citoyenneté: préfecture, the residence permit, rights, duties and the values of the Republic.
Société et culture and Voyages et loisirs: media, environment, opinions, transport and leisure.
Are these the official TCF IRN questions?
No. The official TCF materials are protected and are not reproduced here. Every question, audio clip, passage, model answer and flashcard in this app is written from scratch to match the format and level of the TCF IRN, with a clear explanation for each answer. This keeps the app fully independent of France Éducation international while drilling the same skills.
Who takes the TCF IRN and how much does it cost?
People applying for a residence permit, a carte de résident or French naturalisation take the TCF IRN to prove their French level. It is sat at approved centres and the fee varies by centre and by which tests you take. Always confirm dates and fees with an approved test centre or France Éducation international.

FAQ
Common questions
Is this the official TCF IRN app?
No. This is an independent study aid. It is not affiliated with, authorised by, or endorsed by France Éducation international or any French government body. It is built to help you prepare for the TCF IRN.
Are these the real TCF IRN exam questions?
No. The official TCF materials are protected and are not reproduced here. Every question, audio clip, passage, model answer and flashcard is written from scratch to match the format and level of the TCF IRN, with a clear explanation for each answer.
Does the app cover all four tests, including listening audio?
Yes. It covers listening with audio you play in the app, reading with passages, writing with graded model answers and a self-check rubric, and speaking with spoken examples you compare your own recording against. Flashcards support all four.
What level do I need for the TCF IRN?
It depends on your step: roughly A2 for some residence permits, B1 for the carte de résident, and B2 for naturalisation. Because all four skills count, the app puts real weight on speaking and writing, not only listening and reading. Confirm your exact required level with the official sources.
What languages are the explanations in?
The questions, audio and passages are in French, exactly like the real exam. Every answer is explained in French, English and Arabic, and the writing and speaking rubrics are translated too. You choose the explanation language in Settings.
Does the app work offline?
Yes. Every question, audio clip, passage, explanation, flashcard and model answer is stored on your device, so you can study with no internet connection after you download the app. Your speaking recordings never leave your device.
Is it a one-time purchase?
Yes. You pay once and own the app, with no subscription. If you change devices you can restore your purchase at no extra cost.
Will this app guarantee I pass the TCF IRN?
No app can guarantee a pass. The TCF IRN includes a live speaking interview that depends on practice with real French. This app builds the listening, reading, writing and speaking skills that make the biggest difference, with model answers and spoken examples to imitate.
Where do the questions come from?
Every item is original, written to match the TCF IRN format, with an explanation for each answer. Each one is checked by a second, independent AI model from a different family, with a human reviewing anything flagged. You can read the full process at rivermaplearning.com/how-we-build-questions.
