Vida diaria covers the day from waking to sleeping: "Por la mañana me levanto a las siete", "Me ducho y desayuno", "Después de cenar, me acuesto a las once de la noche". The DELE A2 tests it through three recurring mechanisms: reflexive verbs for routines, telling the time (Son las tres y media), and the household vocabulary of meals and chores (el almuerzo, fregar los platos, la lavadora). Because daily routine is a favourite subject for the writing and speaking tasks too, this topic pays out across all four skills.

The backbone of this topic is the reflexive verb. Spanish attaches a pronoun to the actions you do to yourself: me levanto (I get up), me ducho (I shower), me lavo los dientes (I brush my teeth), me acuesto (I go to bed). The exam's favourite trick is offering the right verb with the wrong ending or the wrong person: "Por la mañana me ___ a las siete" needs levanto to agree with me, and "Mi hermano se ___ los dientes después de comer" needs lava to agree with se and mi hermano. Around the routine sit the fixed points of the day: time is asked with "¿Qué hora es?" and answered with son las, as in "Son las tres y media"; the days of the week run without capital letters, so the day after lunes is martes; and the midday meal is el almuerzo. Ordering the day uses sequencers: "Primero desayuno y luego me lavo los dientes". Transport and repetition round it out: "Todos los días voy al trabajo en autobús" pairs the everyday marker todos los días with the present tense, while "Los fines de semana duermo hasta tarde" shows the weekend exception.
The second half of the topic is the household. The exam defines chores and appliances and asks you to name them: the chore you do with dirty dishes is fregar los platos, the machine that washes clothes is la lavadora, and a dirty house calls for limpiar: "Hoy tengo que limpiar la casa, está muy sucia". For actions happening right now, Spanish uses estar + gerundio, and the A2 paper tests the gerund form itself: "Ahora no puedo hablar, estoy preparando la comida", "Estamos viendo la tele en el salón", where the distractors are the infinitive and the past participle. Frequency expressions calibrate how often things happen: casi nunca (almost never) answers "¿Con qué frecuencia haces deporte?", and the exam checks you build it with casi, not muy or mucho. Finally, connectors join the pieces of daily life: pero for a plain contrast ("No me gusta cocinar, pero me gusta comer"), aunque for a concession ("Me gusta el té, aunque prefiero el café"), and the past slips in through phrases like "Ayer cené en un restaurante con mi familia" and "Normalmente como a las dos, pero hoy he comido a la una", where normalmente takes the present and hoy takes the perfect.
| Verb | Yo form | Meaning | Example from the bank |
|---|---|---|---|
| levantarse | me levanto | to get up | "Por la mañana me levanto a las siete." |
| ducharse | me ducho | to shower | "Me ducho y desayuno." |
| lavarse los dientes | me lavo los dientes | to brush your teeth | "Mi hermano se lava los dientes después de comer." |
| acostarse | me acuesto | to go to bed | "Después de cenar, me acuesto a las once." |
Daily routines and the vocabulary around them: reflexive verbs like levantarse and acostarse, telling the time, days of the week, meals (el almuerzo), housework (fregar los platos, limpiar) and appliances (la lavadora), plus frequency expressions and the estar + gerundio structure for actions in progress.
Spanish marks actions you do to yourself with a reflexive pronoun: me levanto, me ducho, me acuesto. The exam exploits this by offering the correct verb with a mismatched person or ending, so the skill being tested is agreement between the pronoun and the verb form, not just vocabulary.
Ask with "¿Qué hora es?" and answer with son las plus the hour: "Son las tres y media" (half past three). The exam presents the answer as a completion, so learn the pattern as a fixed frame rather than word by word.
It describes an action in progress, like English "I am preparing": "estoy preparando la comida", "estamos viendo la tele". The exam gives you estar and asks for the gerund, with the infinitive (preparar) and participle (preparado) as distractors, so practise forming -ando and -iendo gerunds.
Yes. Describing your day is classic material for the A2 writing tasks and the speaking presentation, so the same reflexive verbs, time phrases and meal words you drill here feed directly into Group 1 and Group 2 of the exam. Our app adds writing tasks with model answers and speaking tasks with example recordings on these themes.
