DELE A2 Practice Questions: Trabajo y Estudios (Work and Study) (2026)

Trabajo y estudios covers the working and learning day: the people (el jefe directs the workers, el profesor teaches at school, el estudiante studies at university), the places (la oficina, la universidad) and the paperwork of getting a job, from el currículum, the document with your details and experience, to "Mañana tengo una entrevista de trabajo". The grammar centres on the impersonal obligation structure hay que + infinitive ("Para este trabajo hay que hablar inglés y español") and the connectors that link cause, contrast and consequence.

Jobs, school and the vocabulary of who does what

The exam builds this topic on definitions and roles. The person who directs the workers in a company is el jefe; the person who teaches in a school is el profesor; the person who studies at university is el estudiante. Distractors come from neighbouring worlds, el cliente, el vecino, el paciente, so the skill is matching the role to its defining action. Places follow the same logic: the room where many people work with computers and desks is la oficina, and degrees happen at la universidad ("Estudio Medicina en la universidad"). You ask about someone's work with "¿En qué trabajas?" (Soy cocinero en un hotel), and the school supplies its objects: "Perdone, ¿tiene un bolígrafo para escribir? El mío no funciona", which smuggles in the possessive pronoun el mío as a bonus. The job hunt has its own mini-narrative the exam loves: "Quiero cambiar de trabajo, así que voy a enviar mi currículum", "Voy a enviar un correo a la empresa para pedir información", "Mañana tengo una entrevista de trabajo". Even the working day's rhythm is tested: "Trabajo de nueve a cinco de la tarde" hangs on the preposition pair de...a, and the midday break is la pausa para comer.

Obligation with hay que, and the connectors of working life

Two grammar engines drive this topic. The first is impersonal obligation: hay que + infinitive states what one must do, with no subject at all. "Para este trabajo hay que hablar inglés y español"; "Para aprender bien, hay que estudiar todos los días". The exam tests the structure by offering conjugated forms as distractors: after hay que only the infinitive (estudiar, hablar) is correct, never estudio or estudiado. The second engine is the connector set. Consequence takes así que: "Trabajo mucho, así que estoy bastante cansada" and "Quiero cambiar de trabajo, así que voy a enviar mi currículum", where aunque and porque sit in the options waiting for a candidate who reads too fast. Plain contrast takes pero, often across time: "Antes trabajaba en una tienda, pero ahora trabajo en una oficina", a sentence that also demonstrates the imperfect for past habits against the present for now. Past experience arrives with hice and the perfect: "El año pasado hice un curso de informática", "Este mes he trabajado muchas horas extra", where el año pasado pulls the indefinido and este mes pulls the perfect. Actions in progress reuse estar + gerundio in an office setting: "Estoy escribiendo un informe para mi jefe ahora mismo".

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What does the trabajo y estudios topic cover on the DELE A2?

Work and school life: professions and roles (el jefe, el profesor, el estudiante), workplaces (la oficina, la universidad), the job hunt (el currículum, la entrevista de trabajo), working hours (de nueve a cinco), and the grammar of obligation (hay que + infinitive) and consequence (así que).

How does hay que work in Spanish?

Hay que + infinitive expresses impersonal obligation, what one must do: "Para este trabajo hay que hablar inglés y español". After hay que only the infinitive is correct; conjugated forms like hablo or participles like hablado are the standard exam distractors.

What is el currículum and how does the exam test it?

El currículum is the document with your personal details and experience that you send when looking for work. The exam tests it as a definition and inside the job-hunt storyline: "Quiero cambiar de trabajo, así que voy a enviar mi currículum", followed by "Mañana tengo una entrevista de trabajo".

What is the difference between así que, aunque and porque?

Así que introduces a consequence ("Trabajo mucho, así que estoy cansada"), porque introduces a cause, and aunque introduces a concession. DELE A2 completion questions put all three in the options, so read the logic of the sentence before choosing: does the second half result from, explain, or contrast with the first?

Is work vocabulary useful for the DELE A2 speaking and writing tests?

Very. Talking about your job or studies is a staple of the speaking presentation, and workplace situations feed the writing tasks and the simulated dialogue. The same sentences you complete here, describing your hours, your workplace and your plans, are the raw material for those tasks, and our app includes writing and speaking modules with model answers on these themes.
