How is the DELE A2 scored, and what does APTO mean?

The DELE A2 has no percentage score and no grade: the result is simply APTO (pass) or NO APTO (fail). The four tests are worth 25 points each, 100 in total, but they are not added into one number. Instead they are paired into two groups of 50 points: Group 1 is Comprensión de lectura plus Expresión e interacción escritas (reading plus writing), and Group 2 is Comprensión auditiva plus Expresión e interacción orales (listening plus speaking). You must score at least 30 of 50 in each group. That pairing changes how you should prepare: a brilliant reading score cannot rescue a weak speaking performance, because reading and speaking sit in different groups. A strong skill can only compensate for a weaker one inside the same group, so the safest strategy is to bring all four skills to a steady A2 level rather than polishing one and neglecting another. The diploma, once earned, has indefinite validity, so you never need to retake it.

Why are the practice questions in Spanish?

The DELE A2 is administered entirely in Spanish: the reading texts, the listening recordings, the writing prompts and the speaking tasks all come at you in Spanish, at A2 level. So the free practice questions on these pages stay in Spanish too, exactly as our app presents them, while the study guidance around them is in English. Working that way trains two things at once: the vocabulary and grammar themselves, and the habit of operating inside Spanish rather than translating in your head. The level required is genuinely modest. A2 on the CEFR scale means handling routine everyday exchanges: introducing yourself, shopping, making an appointment, describing your day. The exam does not expect subjunctive fireworks or literary vocabulary; it expects reliable control of high-frequency language, and that is what these questions drill. Do I need the DELE A2 for Spanish nationality?

For nationality by residence, applicants must pass two Instituto Cervantes tests: a DELE at level A2 or higher, and the CCSE, the test of constitutional and sociocultural knowledge of Spain. Nationals of Spanish-speaking countries are generally exempt from the DELE requirement, and certain official Spanish language certificates can also satisfy it, so check your own situation on the official pages before booking anything. The A2 requirement is deliberate: Spain asks for basic everyday competence, not fluency, which is why the six topics on this hub map so directly onto daily life. One more encouraging fact: preparation courses are not obligatory. The Instituto Cervantes itself notes you can study independently and simply sit the exam (por libre), which is exactly the path this hub and our app support.
