B2Ready is an independent practice app for CEFR B2 level English. It combines listening exercises, reading passages and vocabulary flashcards, all set in everyday UK situations, to help learners build the English that UK settlement applications are moving toward requiring.
What is B2Ready?
B2Ready is a study app for CEFR B2, the upper-intermediate level of the Common European Framework for Languages. It is not a government product: it is an independent study aid, built and published by RiverMap Learning, and it is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any government body or official examining organisation.
The app works offline once downloaded, so practice sessions do not depend on a connection. It targets learners preparing for UK life and, specifically, learners aiming at the B2 English level that some UK settlement routes require or are moving toward requiring. Anyone applying through such a route should always confirm the current requirement for their own case on gov.uk before relying on any third-party study tool.
What does B2Ready actually contain?
The app is built from three modules: listening, reading and flashcards.
- Listening: 90 exercises, each with an audio clip, a full transcript and a comprehension question. The scenarios are drawn from everyday UK situations, such as train announcements, appointment bookings and workplace conversations.
- Reading: 100 reading passages, each paired with comprehension questions covering the kind of documents, letters and everyday texts a B2-level reader in the UK needs to handle.
- Flashcards: 1,000 vocabulary cards, split across 12 topic categories, so learners can drill the words tied to a specific area of life rather than working through one undifferentiated list.
What topics does B2Ready cover?
Content is organised into 12 categories, each mapped to a slice of everyday UK life: Housing, Work, Transport & Travel, Health, Education, Culture & History, Daily Life, People & Society, Leisure & Media, Money & Shopping, Law & Citizenship, and Environment & Tech.
The categories are not weighted evenly. Culture & History and Transport & Travel carry the largest share of listening and reading exercises, while Environment & Tech and Law & Citizenship carry the smallest. The flashcard library follows a similar pattern, with People & Society carrying the most cards of any single category.
Does B2Ready have a pass mark or a timed exam?
No. B2Ready is a practice and revision tool, not a pass or fail exam in itself. It has no official pass mark, because it is not the test; it is designed to build toward the level a separate, approved English test would assess. Learners who need to prove B2 English for an immigration application still need to sit that approved test through the relevant official process, and should check the exact requirement for their route on gov.uk.
Framed this way, B2Ready’s job is narrower than a mock exam: it is there to build listening comprehension, reading comprehension and vocabulary at B2 level through repeated, everyday-context practice, not to certify anything.
How is B2Ready priced?
B2Ready is a free download. The free tier gives access to a limited number of practice items per category and 10 flashcards per category, enough to judge whether the content and level suit you. A single one-time in-app purchase unlocks the full listening library, the full reading library and the complete 1,000-card flashcard set. There is no subscription.
