What the Czech A2 exam for permanent residence involves

The Czech A2 exam for permanent residence is a Czech language exam at level A2 with a written part and a speaking part. The exam is run under NPI ČR (the National Pedagogical Institute of the Czech Republic), and permanent residence itself is handled by the Ministry of the Interior (MV ČR).

Who needs the Czech A2 exam for permanent residence?

Third-country nationals who apply for permanent residence after five years in the Czech Republic, or who hold an EU Blue Card, need the A2 certificate unless an exemption applies, for example if they are under 15 or over 60.

How long is the Czech A2 exam and what are its parts?

The exam has a written part and a speaking part. In the written part, reading takes 40 minutes, writing 25 minutes and listening about 40 minutes; the speaking part takes 15 minutes. In the listening part you hear every recording twice. From 11 April 2026 some writing and speaking tasks changed, but the level is still A2.

What score do you need to pass the Czech A2 exam?

You need to reach two separate minimums. Reading (up to 25 points), writing (up to 20 points) and listening (up to 25 points) are added together, and you need at least 42 of the 70 points; you do not have to pass each part on its own. Speaking is scored separately, and you need at least 24 of 40 points. If you do not reach both minimums, you repeat the whole exam.

How much does the exam cost and when does it run?

The exam costs 3 200 Kč. It usually runs three times a month, on a Wednesday or a Saturday from 9:00, at selected schools.

How does this app prepare you for all four skills?

The app holds 460 practice questions in Czech: 210 topic questions across seven everyday topics, 150 reading questions on 30 reading texts and notice sets, and 100 listening questions on 84 recordings, arranged by the five reading parts and the five listening parts. For writing there are 20 tasks (10 forms and 10 emails) with model answers and a rubric to check yourself. For speaking there are 32 tasks, eight for each of the four speaking tasks: you record yourself on your device and compare with a model answer and a rubric. Explanations switch between Czech and English.

Does the app have a mock exam?

Yes. The timed mock has 50 reading and listening questions in 80 minutes. Its threshold of 30 of 50 is this app's own practice threshold, not the official pass mark: in the real exam, reading, writing and listening are added together and speaking is scored separately.

Are these the official exam questions?

No. All tasks and texts, including the listening scripts, are written by RiverMap Learning and follow only the publicly documented format of the exam. No official test question, text, audio or image is reproduced: the official model tests are © NPI ČR and are not reused. Illustrations and listening audio in this app are AI-generated.
