What are the four parts of the CILS B1 Cittadinanza?

- Lettura e riflessione grammaticale (Reading and grammar), 40 minutes: short texts with true/false statements, plus a cloze passage where candidates choose the missing word or phrase from options.
- Produzione scritta (Writing), 40 minutes: one email or short message, typically 80 to 120 words, responding to a real-life prompt such as asking for information or reporting a problem.
- Produzione orale (Speaking), about 5 to 10 minutes: a short personal presentation followed by a dialogue on an everyday situation, assessed by an examiner.
Ascolto and Lettura e riflessione grammaticale are scored automatically from multiple-choice and true/false answers. Produzione scritta and Produzione orale are marked directly by an examiner rather than counted as a number of questions.
What is the CILS B1 Cittadinanza pass rule?
A candidate needs at least 7 out of 12 in every one of the four parts, plus at least 28 out of 48 across all four combined. The exam does not allow capitalizzazione, meaning skills cannot be averaged against each other: scoring well above 7/12 in reading does not compensate for scoring below 7/12 in speaking. If any single part falls short of 7/12, the whole exam has to be retaken in a later session, even when the overall total clears 28/48. This makes balanced preparation across all four skills more important than being strong in just one or two.
